I'm Hopefully Taking Steampunk to New Heights…

You know all those bits and bobs, the things we scavenge for to make things that satisfy our desire to play with the steampunk aesthetic? I spent years searching flea markets, online auctions, etc, I found some really cool stuff over the years but it's never been enough to satisfy how far I wanted to go and the gods know how many different things I wanted to eventually make. Pursuing this has its challenges that most of you are probably aware of so I'm sure you've already come to conclusion at one time or another finding yourself wishing there was, more. Well, I have decades of making and...

Wireless Induction For Your Light Projects!

I've had a number of questions along the way about some of the recent concept work I've made public, and in other discussions on different types of social media. I'm looking to break down for you a little bit of the design and science behind using wireless induction technology to add some really cool lighting to your projects as well as maybe spice up other things if you start thinking outside of the box. Just poking around here in some of the image galleries should entice you and hopefully inspire you to start thinking of ways to take your projects to new places.   Don't worry if it...

How about a Victorian Steam inspired chess set? Really?

Yes.Something a little off the beaten path lately. I've been researching, engineering and brainstorming some ways to bring some old and new together, and I found myself saying some of this is reminding me of playing chess. Then a little bit of whimsy struck me- “How cool would it be to put some of this stuff I've been working on together and pull off what I think, would be a really damn cool chess set.” Yes, a chess set. My way though. A chess set inspired by Victorian era and  industrial steam concepts, with a dash of punk. Onward:   I'll give you a little bit of a peek into...

My Fascination with Ornate Metal Work.

The allure of Victorian industrial era embellishments lies in their intricate fusion of functionality with ornate aesthetics, transforming even the most mundane objects into pieces of art.During this period, the burgeoning wealth from the industrial revolution allowed for an unprecedented level of detail in everyday items. Items like cast iron kettles, door handles, and even coal scuttles were adorned with elaborate scrollwork, floral motifs, and neoclassical elements, often cast in metal or carved into wood. This era's design ethos embraced complexity and richness, employing techniques like...

The Warmth of Copper, Brass, and Bronze…

My idea of relaxing Saturday evening. Unless you've spent years doing metal work, it's hard to describe the satisfaction and also the kindred spirit you feel even watching someone else at their craft. I've met many artisans over the years, including ones from other countries and funny enough, we don't even have to speak the same language. There's an undeniable romance in the patina and warmth of metals like copper, bronze, and brass that modern materials such as plastic can seldom replicate. These metals carry with them a sense of history, a testament to human craftsmanship that has evolved over...

Mystical, Glowing Mushrooms and Other Fungi

From time to time I like referring back to my old miniature painting and sculpture days, and one of those burner projects I've had for a fair number of years now has been being able to reproduce various types of fungi and make them, ah, glow. There are different forms of this out in the natural world that have their own bioluminescence and over the years people have hopped on the train and started making their own versions, and I've come across some pretty cool examples that are inspiring.   I figured I'd throw together some collected pictures, and a couple of videos I came across recently...

Random Steam Galleries

Things can get a little crazy in here, so be warned. I set these up primarily so I can refer back to them when I'm doing my own brainstorming in the workshop. I may enable commenting and voting just to get a feel for what people have to say and what they like, but that can come and go depending on potential abuse or other unwanted miscreants showing up. If you do decide to grab any images, and I know some people probably will, all I ask is that you drop some credit where possible and don't claim that the work is yours. Regardless, it's my sincere hope that these galleries and any of the work...

Workbench Random

Anything could be possible in this section. One day I may be staring out the window and a mossy log being caressed by a fern may catch my eye. I travel when I dream, and my dreams take me places I have been before, places I wish to explore, and places I never knew existed. You never know what I may be thinking about, then all of a sudden my hands start telling me it's time to make these with manifest. It's my way and always has been.   As I remember, I'll just drop some of these perusals here for you to hopefully, spend some time and getting inspired, or at least a partial answer to...
