Listening To Some Old Boston…

I was sitting down this morning, just checking the 5150 and having a quiet conversation with it, and started thinking of some old Boston tunes.

5150

I could go through a huge list of other bands of the era but there was always something about Boston and a few others that just pulled you into the songs as if you were actually on a ride, specially for someone who had a particular for guitar work and the ability for it in the right hands to convey emotion and say words without so much is opening your mouth. It comes from the heart then the hands.

It started happening then and it's most definitely a part of sound space now but you can over engineer things and it isn't until you see them being played live and by the artists that it becomes possible for you to feel what they're trying to say. I can't give you that. You either tune yourself into it or not.

Anyways, I stopped for a little while and started to try to objectively look at the collection of pedals and a handful of guitars that I own currently, and I think if I sit down and goof around for a little while I can do some of this stuff for myself. Back then, musicians like Tom Scholz, Eddie Van Halen, Getty and Alex, Joe, etc., had minimalist  equipment available did a hell of a lot of experimentation and hacking. Those guys are light years and magnitudes of talents beyond my sorry ass, but it costs nothing to try and the only expenditure in comparison is just time and a desire to explore.

After listening to a few of those Boston songs, some of them old memories, feelings and whatever else started washing back over this tired dudes soul, and goddamn it, it was great, it was then, and it still is now.

I can't link too many videos in a  journal entry without Facebook thinking that I'm trying to work some algorithm system for monetization or hits or whatever, so fuck them, I'll link them in the comments individually and that may even benefit you because you can kick back and listen to them at your leisure. Try going to some of the places I did. Each piece can awaken something and mean something different to everyone out there so go where you want. That's the beauty of all this.

I'll link all the videos in my actual journal post on my website though, you're more than welcome to go there and read it there as well. It's there for me folks, my son, and anyone else that feels that it belongs to. I'm just here.

Enjoy.
